In the spirit of celebrating Independence Week, I am in awe, and draw such inspiration by the courage, leadership, and collaborative spirit that it took to create the Declaration of Independence. It is a time I observe with deep gratitude and reflection.

A declaration is a bold claim that one makes that sets everything in motion to create a new future. They can come from a vision sourced by a Higher Power, compelling one to be fearless in the face of taking uncomfortable actions to realize this new future.

We can see many examples of fearless leaders making a declaration that was history-in-the-making:

• Gandhi declaring independence from England.
• The countless declarations that Martin Luther King made in his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.
• John F. Kennedy declaring that we would reach the moon within the decade.

… just to name a few

All of these leaders have had the courage to declare something that was not yet in existence and did not even seem possible.

And, what was the result?

Their ‘declarations’ have contributed to our extraordinary life.

Patanjali, the sage who wrote the Yoga Sutra had this to say:

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds; your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties, and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to beâ€.

What bold declaration will you make that will change the future for all the people you are meant to serve in your lifetime and for all those you touch?

What courageous declaration will you make regarding your relationships?

Your health?

Of course, making a declaration takes courage, faith, and trust. It is creating something out of nothing. It is behaving and operating with no outside agreement.

In fact, many times it is continuing to act according to your inner guidance when the majority of people around you don’t agree with you.
